Abstract
Hibiscus rosa sinensis L. or commonly known as hibiscus is a family of Malvaceae. In Indonesia hibiscus plant is used as a traditional medicine that how the application is brewed like consuming tea. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential acute toxicity of hibiscus flower and leaf extract against artemia Salina L larvae. the extract in the study was obtained by maceration method which then conducted phytochemical screening test. Phytochemical screening obtained the results of hibiscus flower and leaf extracts containing flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. Toxicity test was conducted using BSLT (Brine shrimp lethality test) method indicated by LC50 value. The type of research used was experimental conducted in Oktober 2021-May 2022 at the pharmacology Laboratory and the Parasitology Laboratory of the Kemenkes Surabaya Poltekkes. The BSLT test used 420 artemia larvae with 6 concentration groups with 1 negative control. The concentration of extract used is 500 ppm, 250 ppm, 125 ppm, 50 ppm, 25 ppm, 12.5 ppm. Each concentration consisted of 10 larvae with 3 times replication per treatment group. Then calculated the number of dead larvae after 24 hours of addition of the extract. The results of linear regression analysis showed that the LC50 value of hibiscus leaf extract is 87.8998 ppm and the LC50 value of hibiscus flower extract is 112.5841 ppm. The results of this study showed that the extract of hibiscus flowers and leaves fall into the category of toxic, due to the value of LC50< 1000 ppm. Keywords: Hibiscus rosa sinensis L, acute toxicity, bslt, Artemia salina larvae.
