Abstract
Karies merupakan suatu penyakit jaringan keras gigi, yaitu email, dentin, sementum yang disebabkan oleh aktivitas jasad renik dalam suatu karbohidrat yang dapat diragikan dan salah satu faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya karies adalah plak, plak adalah lapisan lunak dan lengket yang melekat pada gigi. Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah tingginya persentase karies gigi mahasiswa Jurusan Keperawatan Gigi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan efektifitas obat kumur non herbal (chlorheksidine 0,2%) dan obat kumur herbal larutan bunga rosella merah (Hibiscus sabdariffa L 20%) terhadap indeks plak. Jenis penelitian ini adalah Pra eksperimental design. Sasaran penelitian adalah mahasiswa D4 Jurusan Keperawatan Gigi berjumlah 32 mahasiswa. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan lembar observasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji T tidak berpasangan (independent T-test). Hasil penelitian diperoleh pvalue : 0,000, p < 0,05 dengan indeks plak sesudah berkumur obat kumur non herbal (chlorheksidine 0,2%) mean ± Std.Deviation (1,61 ± 0,44) dan indeks plak sesudah berkumur obat kumur herbal larutan bunga rosella merah (Hibiscus sabdariffa L 20%) mean ± Std.Deviation (0,80 ± 0,28) dapat menurunkan indeks plak. Hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan didapatkan kesimpulan bahwa ada perbedaan efektifitas obat kumur non herbal (chlorheksidine 0,2%) dan obat kumur herbal larutan bunga rosella merah (Hibiscus sabdariffa L 20%) terhadap indeks plak, bahwa obat kumur herbal larutan bunga rosella merah (Hibiscus sabdariffa L 20 %) lebih efektif dibandingkan obat kumur non herbal (Chlorheksidine 0,2 %).
