Abstract
ABSTRAK Industri tahu menggunakan bahan baku kedelai, pada umumnya dikelola oleh industri perumahan yang air limbahnya dibuang ke lingkungan tanpa pengolahan. Tingginya kandungan BOD dan TSS air limbah industri tahu dapat mencemari lingkungan. Tujuan penelitian menurunkan kadar BOD dan TSS air limbah industry tahu dengan menggunakan biokoagulan inti biji asam jawa dan efektivitas penurunannya. Desain penelitian eksperimen jenisnya eksperimen semu yaitu peneliti mengelompokkan dalam kelompok control dan kelompok eksperimen. Objek penelitian kandungan BOD dan TSS dalam limbah pabrik tahu. Variabel dependennya BOD dan TSS. Variable independennya inti biji asam jawa. Sample diberikan biokoagulan inti biji asam jawa sebanyak 4 gram, 6 gram, 8 gram dan diaduk cepat dengan 150 rpm dalam 3 menit, diaduk lambat dengan 30 rpm dalam 3 menit, didiamkan selama 15 menit, 30 menit, 45 menit dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Penurunan terbesar kandungan BOD dari 210 mg/l menjadi 74 mg/l, TSS dari 146 mg/l menjadi 58 mg/l dan persentase efektivitas penurunan terbesar pada variasi dosis biokoagulan 8 gram dalam reaksi selamat 45 menit. Kandungan tanin dalam biji asam jawa merupakan senyawa penghambat pertumbuhan bakteri/mikroba1 sehingga kebutuhan oksigen oleh bakteri menurun. Biji asam jawa bermuatan positif dapat mengikat partikel partikel dalam air yang bermuatan negative sehingga terdestabilisasi membentuk flok2 dan mengendap sehingga air menjadi lebih jernih. Semakin besar dosis biokoagulan inti biji asam jawa dan semakin lama proses reaksi pada limbah pabrik tahu maka semakin besar penurunan BOD dan TSS. Semakin efektif juga menurunkan kandungan BOD dan TSS. Untuk penelitian lanjutan sebaiknya menggunakan biokoagulan cangkang biji asam jawa. Untuk penelitian lanjutan sebaiknya menggunakan variasi dosis di atas 6 gram dan penurunan parameter air lainnya. Kata kunci: air limbah pabrik tahu, BOD, TSS, biji asam jawa ABSTRACT The tofu industry uses soybean as raw material, generally managed by residential industries whose wastewater is discharged into the environment without treatment. The high BOD and TSS content of tofu industrial wastewater can pollute the environment. The aim of the research is to reduce the BOD and TSS levels of tofu industry wastewater using tamarind seed kernel biocoagulant and the effectiveness of its reduction. The experimental research design is a quasi-experimental type, namely the researcher groups them into a control group and an experimental group. The research object is BOD and TSS content in tofu factory waste. The dependent variables are BOD and TSS. The independent variable is the kernel of tamarind seeds. Samples were given 4 grams, 6 grams, 8 grams of tamarind seed core biocoagulant and stirred quickly at 150 rpm in 3 minutes, stirred slowly at 30 rpm in 3 minutes, left for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes and analyzed descriptively. The greatest reduction in BOD content was from 210 mg/l to 74 mg/l, TSS from 146 mg/l to 58 mg/l and the greatest percentage of effectiveness reduction was in varying biocoagulant doses of 8 grams in a reaction that survived 45 minutes. The tannin content in tamarind seeds is a compound that inhibits the growth of bacteria/microbes1 so that the need for oxygen by bacteria decreases. Positively charged tamarind seeds can bind negatively charged particles in water so that they are destabilized to form flocs and settle so that the water becomes clearer. The greater the dose of tamarind seed core biocoagulant and the longer the reaction process in tofu factory waste, the greater the decrease in BOD, TSS and the more effective it is in reducing the BOD, TSS content.
